I Got Mail

It’s almost spring, prime time for school visits! Whenever I do one, I get repaid in three parts.

First, the prep, which makes me re-think what I want to share with kids about reading, writing, imagination and creativity–all in just 45 minutes. What do I really want them to know? How can I encourage them all to be makers and dreamers? (To tell the truth, I also get nervous during this part!)

Second, I do it!

And third, if I’m lucky–and I so often am–I get letters afterwards. Who gets REAL letters any more, let alone illustrated? My own personal illuminated manuscripts. Here are a few recent ones–enjoy!

    Hi Tricia – –
My name is Mike Cole and I live in Shaker Heights. I am now semi/retired and during this enforced stay-at-home period due to the coronavirus, I’m doing things that I normally do not embark upon. This week while reading to one of my grandchildren, I pulled out an unfinished manuscript that I had last worked on during the summer of 1964 when I was doing some editing work for a children’s book publisher, and she really enjoyed it. That inspired me to consider completing the work, but I need a good editor to collaborate with and I know of no one with those talents locally. I saw your recommendation for young readers in today’s PD, and decided to reach out to you to see if we could chat. I can be reached at 216/316–3076. I would be grateful for any advice you might be able to offer and will hope to hear from you!

    Best regards and stay healthy,
    Mike
